| May 20th, 2007The above date marked the end of the "textbook" phase of my life, unless I intend to achieve the title Dr. Khoong. Frankly, I gave it a thought but I realized that it was not a path that I would like to pursue. I already have a high forehead, another four academic years would probably speed up my balding process. Plus I do not think "Dr. Khoong" sounds pleasant in any way; I am totally fine with "Mr. Khoong."
Anyways, I apologize for my longest of absence from blogging. Not like anyone expects me to update, but hey, writing a post once in a blue moon does no harm. So yeah, it has been a great one week since graduation. For those uninformed, let me share my joy, I graduated last Sunday with an MBA. In other words, I made papi and mami proud . What is next for me, I do not know. I am in the process of interviewing with a company or two here in California. If I have an offer, I will definitely "share my joy" here on my blog again.
Landing a job, I personally believe, is not so much of a problem, but the US Immigration has made it so much tougher for the international students, to a point that many companies are reluctant to recruit what the Immigration refers to as "aliens." Resident aliens and non-resident aliens. I still cannot figure out why we foreigners are referred to as aliens. I wish I have a spaceship.
All in all, it has been a great two-year learning experience for me. I have learned so much, academically, as well as in all other aspects of life. The MBA program, I think, is not as difficult as many people assume it to be; but boy does it take sleepless-nights and no-weekends to a whole new level. MBA students are no rocket scientists, but I cannot deny the time-consuming factor of it.
My family will be here for another month, and that indirectly awards me with a one-month contract as a tour guide. This means that my next update will be posted as soon as the next blue moon.
Here is to a good beginning to a life-long journey: my professional career.
It took us 40 minutes to put the hood on , and yet we didn't get it right. Mom and step-mom got me flowers... woohoo, for once in my life I received roses... My MBA consulting team, another guy from El Salvador is missing Who am I talking to?? With mom at 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica, pic turns out blurry, but oh well.. Spent two nights at Paris Paris in Las Vegas.. My family is in San Jose now and I shall see them again next week | | |
| I have heard countless stories about the Malaysian police
force. Abuse of power, corruption, lack
of follow-up procedure, and what not. However,
I have yet to give a damn about them, at least not until recently.
I witnessed a snatch theft in my neighborhood many years ago
during my secondary school years. An
elderly woman had her necklace taken away from her neck and was pushed to the
ground. Old and weak as she was, she fell
to the ground hitting her head first. A
999 call (similar to 911) was made by a passer-by. Ten minutes later, no sign of ambulance,
police, or any sort of help. Twenty
minutes passed, nothing. Thirty minutes,
busy day at the hospital I guess, and cops are having lunch. A passer-by decided that it would be best if
he could take her to the hospital in his car.
Ten minutes after he left with the snatch-theft victim, the ambulance
showed up. The cops arrived, about an
hour later, almost two I believe. The
lady was in the state of coma for some time and I was later told that she did
not make it.
That was my personal experience. And I have heard many other ridiculous
ones. But why am I writing today?
My brother was robbed while on his way to work two days
ago. Approximately ten men (he couldn’t
recall the exact number) approached him on motorcycles and started to beat him
up with their motorcycle helmets, hitting him in his head and body. They took his work bag, wallet, and
necklace. Ten guys beating up a guy for
just that? They fled on their
motorcycles, and apparently, not satisfied with what they had, they returned to
look for more. This time, they took away
my brother’s cell phone, ripped his clothes apart, and attempted to get his
shoes too. My brother claimed that these
are young Malay guys. This happened at
around 6am, and apparently there was no eye-witness.
My brother was hospitalized and he sustained injuries to the
head, face, lips, and arms. A police
report was made by his colleagues, but disappointed as anyone would; response
from the police was very discouraging, saying, “Ohh, this is very normal. We have hundreds of cases like this
everyday!!!”
Normal?
And does that mean you’re not going to f**king do anything about it? The reason this is normal is because of people like you who just lets these cases slipped.
I am completely shocked and saddened at what had happened to
my brother. I was never this angry;
angry at the crimes in my country, angry at the Malaysian police force.
I am thousand of miles away from home, away from my
brother. Despite that, I need an
explanation from the police. What can
you do well besides taking bribes, you money-hungry POS!!
Crime rate is out of control in Malaysia. The government has always supported the idea
that overseas student and employees ought to return to Malaysia to
support the growing economy. Are you
kidding me? Do you really think this
bunch of Malaysian talents will return home and get murdered, raped, robbed,
you name it? Not until something is done
to ensure our safety, we are bound to stay, at where public safety comes
first.

| A Malaysian Boy's Periodic Report
It has been a great chapter of my life, which unfortunately has to come
to an end. Life goes on and I shall move on to the next chapter.
With so much free time in hand now, I am contemplating a return to
competitive tennis. I have found a hitting partner and we are thinking
about competing in tournaments. Meanwhile, completing my final
semester in business school and job search would be my priorities.
Please take care of yourself back home.

| Supermarket Sweep
Geez, I have gone to the supermarket 4 times in 6 days. I don't know...
The first time around, I spent $80, $65 on the second, $30 on the
third, and today, another $40. That's over $200 worth of
groceries. Seriously, how much do I eat?? I think I make a good
househusband, no kidding. I'm like addicted to this whole
supermarket scene. I get all excited when I walk in there with a
cart getting ready to pull those stuff off the shelves. OK, I
need help!!!

I get all healthy with the whole grain cereal, Zero trans fat cheese
crackers, fat free thousand island, protein bars, and yeah, Heineken.
WTF!!!

I went back for more protein bars and granola bars. Protein bars can get expensive.

I made myself some curry noodle today (not the Malaysian kind of curry,
sadly). It doesn't look too good eh, oh well, beginners!!
I find myself getting annoyed by some friends lately. Let's face
it, most college students come across some financial
difficulties. Unless you're one of those rich Asian kids, like
those we find in Southern California. Unfortunately, I am not one
of those rich ones and I don't claim to be one.
But people, if you don't have much "dough," stop spending. A
couple of my friends were telling me how broke they were and the next
thing you know, they were off to a road trip. Las Vegas, San
Diego, Mexico, Grand Canyon, you name it. And a few others
were really running out of money, but they consume more alcohol than I
do water. I just have a difficult time understanding these
people. Let's see, having not return to my own country for almost
three years, now, that's broke. I don't like home that much
anyways .
By the way, I just got home from a party at my friend's pad.
There were a bunch of French guys there and, as usual, we were talking
about women. No big surprises there!!! So these two Frenchie (I
like calling them frenchie for some reason) told me they visited
Malaysia a few months ago. Being the nice Malaysian that I am, I
asked if they enjoyed their stay. It turned out that they had a
disappointing time in Malaysia. I asked why.
"The girls are not as attractive as we expected, man. Didn't meet
our expectation, nono. But Pulau Perhentian was freaking
awesome!!" I so wanted to crack up, but at the same time, I felt
like I should be defending Malaysian girls. But yeah, to find out
why Malaysian girls don't attract them, I played along with them.
"Yeah, that explains why I haven't been home for three years!!"
And here comes the words from the Frenchies, "Man, what happened to 'em boobies, I don't see any!!"
OK, I better stop here. But honestly though, I think many
Malaysian girls have major nutrition problems. They either starve
themselves to death or they are eating the wrong stuff. It is
another story if we can't afford healthy food, but if we can, why not
do it right? Whatever it is, please include dairy products as
part of your daily diet. I think dairy products would help the,
ahem, above issue.
Yet another controversial post, let me apologize upfront.

| 2007
Yes, I am a little late for the New Year blog entry. Let's see..
I was out of town for the Christmas/New Year week and I got home to
Fullerton on the 2nd. Well, I didn't do much for the week.
I was up in San Jose with my brother helping him to move to his new
home. Anyways, I will write more about that trip.
Today, I realized that it is exciting to live alone. I always had
a friend, or rather some friends, with me wherever I go. Since
everyone is gone for the winter break, it is time for me to have my own
time and space. Yesterday was a pretty relaxed day for me,
stocking up the groceries and working out at the gym. Today, I
hit the supermarket again for more groceries. While strolling
along the aisle in the supermarket, I thought about cheese.
Giving in to temptation, I drove to the nearest pizza place and bought
myself a large pizza with pineapple.
I don't know, this is a good feeling. Do what I want to do or feel like doing. Nobody holds me back.
And yesterday, I had the chance to practice on my drums again, for a
good three hours. I guess being a single man isn't too bad at
all. Perhaps I have not felt the pain and boredom of being
isolated. Whatever it is, life is as good as it gets... at least
for now!!!
Ohhh, before I forget, I also came to realization that.......
that......
that..... Asian girls are so sexy!!!!!
